What we do
Kentik has a rapidly growing engineering team and is looking for a Director of Infrastructure Engineering to help architect and drive organizational strategies that will serve as a foundation for our growth. In the role, you will report directly to the SVP of Engineering and facilitate efforts between engineering managers and teams, as well as interface with other departments within the company on cross-functional projects.
What you'll do

You will be responsible for Kentik’s physical- and SaaS-based infrastructure, including network operating centers, service delivery, robustness, availability, and Site Reliability Engineering/Operations. You’ll be responsible for the budget associated with all of those operations. You will coordinate infrastructure operations with the rest of the business building solid working relationships with other Engineering functions as well Go-To-Market functions.

Continually evolve our infrastructure and DevOps strategy and influence with a focus on connecting business operations and requirements with the technology infrastructure of Kentik
Manage, grow, and develop the roadmap for both our physical and software infrastructure, including data center operations, engineering tooling, and core services of our platform
Hire and nurture team members based on company needs and direction
Establish and maintain relationships with key vendors and contractors
Engage with both internal and external customers on deployment of various solutions
Manage a truly remote, global team and company across many countries and many time zones
Deep dive into diverse topics, from NetFlow and IP routing, to database replication strategies or HTTP optimization
Provide valuable feedback on team goals, projects, and processes; we believe in continuously improving our team
Write design documents or collaborate on colleagues’ docs to introduce new features or changes into our infrastructure

What you'll bring

Significant experience in Operations, Reliability Engineering, Networking in both Physical and SaaS based environments
3+ years of engineering organizational/leadership experience focused on strategic organizational initiatives, ideally at a SaaS B2B company
5+ years experience in sales, operations, support, engineering at a high-growth SaaS company
Exceptional leadership and management skills, with the ability to develop and communicate a vision that inspires and motivates staff
Experience with organizational change management and transformation
Experience in Agile or similar development practices
Strong analytical, strategic conceptual thinking, strategic planning and execution skills
Effective influencing and negotiation skills in an environment in which resources may not be under your direct control
Experience with data visualization creation

Nice to haves:

Experience with engineering practices at mid-to-late stage startups
Operational Excellence or Center of Excellence team leadership experience

Our tech stack

Our core data engine and platform are primarily written in Go
We use Node.js + Express for application serving, and React as our primary UI framework
We also use some JS and Python for tooling/scripting
In addition to our own database, we use Postgres, Kafka, Mysql, and Redis
Internal and public APIs expose both rest/json and gRPC endpoints
Haproxy, Envoy for API traffic routing and balancing
Github for source control, PRs, issues
Jenkins for automated builds

Our compensation philosophy encompasses a fair program for all in order to attract, engage and retain talented individuals who will drive our business and wow our customers.

The compensation range for this position is: $246,000 - $333,000. This range reflects the low and high end of the U.S. compensation range Kentik reasonably and generally expects to pay the hired candidate in this role. The actual compensation offered may be lower or higher than the stated range depending on various factors, including but not limited to:

Experience with the skill sets required for success
Demonstrated competencies and potential
A geographic market-based approach
